Glimpse of Spring

Glimpse of Spring

To the woman collecting bottles
who feeds the cats every third day
on her walk to work

To the couples whispering on the stone steps, their words obscured by the din of construction
transformed into love songs, pure and simple

To an old friend, eyes smiling behind
a mask, stopping to share a few words and well-wishes

To the hum of traffic, the jovial blaring of horns and cigarettes dangling out of car-windows

To the birds and their song, easing us into the day (or lulling us to sleep)

To the cool wind, no longer bone-chilling,
but gently prodding for your attention

And to the warm Jerusalem sun, sculpting spring out of February

Thank you for being there
for showing me
how to fight loneliness
