From the Field

Tank with Israeli flag: From the Field by Yonah ben-Avraham

I’ve seen your eyes in the desert
Glimpsing dusted moments from
between those two rocks, embracing from eternity to now

I’ve seen your smile
Stitched into the night sky
Burning drops on inky parchment
You grin at me,
and I grin back at you

Sometimes I hear you laugh
Booming from within the howling of jackals
and you fill my eyes with tears
and my heart with radiance

You are the G-d of my fathers
the One who makes the cactus bloom
and springs of fresh water fill the skies

The One who brings the wanderer to that dream of a home
Who bears the wind-parched, barren tree through summer

I haven’t forgotten you
Please
Don’t forget about me
and hold us close
