The people of Israel paid a steep price for Mordekhai & Esther leaving Aḥashverosh alive.

A surface-level reading of Megillat Esther can lead many Jews to reach some very problematic conclusions.

But the deeper one studies the Purim story according to the perspective of Israel’s sages, the more one comes to recognize Aḥashverosh as the true enemy of the Jewish people – even more so than Amalek.
