If we use the Israelite tribal identities as archetypes for different sociopolitical groups in the contemporary Jewish world, the most extreme nationalist elements of Israeli society should be seen as representing the tribe of “Shimon.”
Jews of the tribal persuasion of Shimon view the world almost exclusively through the ideological lens of Jewish history, are willing to use force to promote Torah values, and tend to disdain fellow Jews they perceive as overly influenced by what gentiles think of them.
But despite its aggressive dedication to the Torah, land, and people of Israel, the tribe of Shimon can be susceptible to seemingly benign foreign influences.
