Of all the many seismic shifts that took place in the fabric of US Jewish society during the 1980s, the Jonathan Pollard Affair was an earthquake. Pollard’s 1985 arrest rocked the US-Israel relationship and accelerated the splintering of attitudes towards Israel among Diaspora Jews. Whether one sees Pollard as a traitor or as a Prisoner of Zion, his story must be heard.
