A People That Acts

A People Who Acts

The blood in the streets that flows like water
The tears streaking the face of every mother

The fire rages and burns brighter every day
We know hazily why we fight
But don’t bother to ask precisely for what, and how, and for whom

Our senses are so dull
Our feelings, our hearts, heavy and ancient like the stones in Jerusalem

There is enough pain to go around but not enough people strong enough to carry it without breaking under the weight

There soon will be none left to comfort us or witness our pain
Save for the few who go against the many

We are desperate to be loved and accepted yet we cannot love ourselves enough to come together and fix what is broken

We cannot make space for brothers who are different
Even amongst ourselves everything feels like a threat

The noise from outside is getting louder
So loud it’s deafening
Some of us shut down
Turn to drugs and drink
Some shut down their hearts in service of the cause
Some of us turn on each other
Some are after personal gain
Where are our leaders ?
Not the ones who can maneuver politically with a thousand faces
But leaders who remind us what is in our heart
Inspire us to be who we yearn to be
A people who acts
With Justice
With Love
With strength
With kindness
With responsibility
