In the Eyes of Esav

Medieval Jewish Moneylenders

In the eyes of Esav
I am a threat
the mortal enemy
of all things he holds dear
power for power’s sake
gaining at other’s expense
therefore I must be nullified

In the eyes of Esav
I am a villain
the god-killer
who must be continuously punished
head pushed under the surface
persecuted to the brink of extinction
they only let me live
that the world might see who the true elder brother is

In the eyes of Esav
We exist on a see-saw
when I descend, he ascends
when I rise, he falls
therefore he cannot remove his foot from upon my neck

In the eyes of Esav
I am frightening
an eternal reminder
of the falsity of his claims
that mankind does not need saving
in fact, we can save the world
he knows this
and he despises me for it.

Surprised?
You shouldn’t be
It’s a known law that Esav hates Yaakov
