In 1981, Israeli Prime Minister Menaḥem Begin (Likud) bombed Iraqi reactor Osirak on the distant banks of the Tigris. This gave birth to the “Begin doctrine” of absolute opposition to any enemy of the Jewish people possessing nuclear weapons.
