An old oak tree silhouetted against the sunset, Quintrell Downs, Cornwall.

The sunset is sheer
a gentle nectarine blur across a fading opaque blue
catching every wonder chased away by the constant drumming of
blood in my ear as the next bill lands on my counter

The great fire itself falls behind an oak
its rays ricocheting off every glittering leaf
twirling in a cosmic ballet before an audience of born-anew children

We are caught in its blaze
in a cleansing splendor of dreams and the means to pursue them
and though night creeps in our minds
to spread her body across the heavens
We know that the vaults overflow with light for the breaking of dawn

Anxious to see its lover,
Adamah,
we wait for its desperate, excited prickling bursting through the inky void
and to glimpse the tender notes stitched delicately in code across an onyx tapestry

And though the birds sing through the dusty lilac, I could feel creation hold its breath.
Or maybe just me,
but in that moment, I knew
that G-d is One and his Name is One
and there was no other place I could ever be.
