Shulamit Avigail Efrat

Shulamit Avigail Efrat

Shulamit Avigail Efrat is a doctoral candidate in Sociocultural and Linguistic Anthropology with a Master of Arts in Oral History and founder of the Diarna (“Our Homes” in Judeo-Arabic) Oral History Educational Institute. Before college, she lived on an Aboriginal Australian community in the Northern Territory of Australia, working with an all-women’s Indigenous-run organization focused on the wellbeing of community Elders and people with disabilities. As a Fulbright Scholar in Israel, she conducted ethnographic research with Mizrahi/Sephardi Elders and their descendants. She focuses on systematically understanding how Jewish cultural knowledge is transmitted as well as erased, forgotten, and (re)created from generation to generation, particularly outside of religious-textual spheres and amongst Jewish women.
